This is one of the most important things to understand on AI Peeps, because it decides whether a chat — and the Peep in it — sticks around. Three ideas link together: temporary chats → saving a chat → keeping the Peep.
Temporary chats (2 slots)
Every new chat starts in a temporary slot. You have 2 of them, holding your two most recent unsaved chats. Think of them as a parking spot, not a garage: automatic and handy, but not permanent storage.
Starting a new chat when both slots are full
When both temporary slots are full and you start a new chat (or create a new Peep), the oldest temporary chat has to make way. Don't worry — it isn't abrupt:
- AI Peeps asks you to confirm first.
- If you have a free permanent slot, it even offers a one-tap button to save that chat on the spot before you continue.
So nothing vanishes by surprise. That said, it's worth knowing what's at stake:
Saving a chat = keeping the Peep
The fix is simple: save the chat. Saving moves it into a permanent slot and keeps both the conversation and the Peep. You can:
- Tap the big blue → Save Chat button at the top of any temporary chat, or
- Save it from the confirmation prompt when starting a new chat, or
- Promote it any time from My Chats.
Permanent slots scale with your plan:
| Plan | Permanent chat slots |
|---|---|
| Starter | 3 |
| Pal | 25 |
| Pro | 45 |
Want a few more? Become a Creator — publish public Peeps and you earn a creator bonus of 5 extra chat slots on top of your plan (see Galleries & Sharing). If all your permanent slots are full, free one (delete a saved chat) before saving another.
Frozen chats
If you have more saved chats than your current plan allows (for example, after a subscription ends), older chats become frozen — read-only — until you free up an active slot by deleting another chat.
Multiple chats with the same Peep
You're not limited to a single conversation per Peep. You can keep several separate chats with the same character — each with its own history, scenario, and your-profile — so you can explore different storylines side by side.
Forking a chat
Once a chat is saved, you can fork it: open it from My Chats and choose Fork (the branch 🔀 icon). Forking makes a copy of the chat including its history as a brand-new separate chat.
Think of it as a save point you can branch from: keep the original safe and take the copy in a completely different direction. It's perfect for trying a risky choice or a different mood without losing where you were.
